Scraps from the Past: Teen Party Dress With Shimmering Blue Collar & Cuffs

This accessory dress from McCall's and 1957 is versatile and lovely - a dress you can dress up for parties or down for every day.

Here is the scrap that was tucked in the pattern envelope, a beautiful shimmering blue, (alas,  the shimmering aspect doesn't come across in this scan).

From the notes the seamstress wrote on the envelope, she planned to sew view D in a black silky plaid, with detachable blue taffeta collar and cuffs. Can you picture it? :)

  1. Oh, that would have looked so pretty! I wonder if she ever finished it? By the way, I love these Scraps from the Past posts that you put up. I always enjoy looking at what piece of fabric was tucked inside the pattern. :)

  2. I am so glad that you enjoy them too. It is fun to imagine the finished item, all sewed up. Sometimes the scrap is a true scrap, just a piece saved from the cutting. But sometimes it is a piece still pinned to a pattern piece. And then I wonder - why didn't they sew it? This particular scrap WAS the detachable cuff - all 4 pieces! The mystery remains. :)
