Accessorize Your '60s Cocktail Dress!

It's the hunt for accessories! This wonderful Patt-O-Rama mail order pattern from 1966 that I posted yesterday in my shop features a chic two-piece dress with a focus on the accessories.

The pattern included this additional sheet that describes how to accessorize this dress in three different ways! I thought it would be fun to see if I could find vintage fabric and accessories in Etsy shops to match the suggestions. Check them out below. :) Did I do a fair job? Do all the elements work together? Feel free to suggest alternate choices!

I will say, that just the exercise of selecting the pieces for each version made it easier to imagine myself in each version of this two-piece dress. A very fun and useful result!

Home Sewing Tips from the 1920s - Transparent Flowers to Trim Frocks and Hats

In this easy-peasy tip from Ruth Wyeth Spears, she describes how to make sheer floral accents for hats and frocks. All it takes is fine wire, ribbon, and tulle or maline fabric in your choice of color (all of which can be purchased online or at your local fabric store, such as Hancock's or Joanne's). Perfect for your summer or formal frocks of sheer fabric, and of course for any fine summer hat.

Be sure to click on the image to enlarge it for easier reading. And I simply have to make some of these. This is a low effort-project that will produce such satisfactory and lovely results.

1973 Accessories for a February Getaway

What accessories were hot in February 1973? According to Vogue, they included platform shoes, sunglasses framed in wide, brightly-colored plastic frames, and "carpet bag" handbags in colorful patterns slung from wooden handle grips. Fill in the color!
